The January 21, 2015 meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held at Famous Anthony's 460 in Roanoke, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. by David Tanner. No treasurer's report was given. Announcements were made. There will be no Blue Ridge meeting in February or March. The education portion of the meeting began at 1:05 PM which was a round table discussion format approved by the IRS. Benny Montgomery was the facilitator for this presentation. The topic of the Affordable Care Act and how it will be handled on the tax return was presented with worksheets to help in understanding how to report on the returns. The education portion concluded at 2:06 pm with one hour of CPE earned. April meeting was moved to April 24 at the farm of Grace Robelen. Meeting adjourned at 2:10. Rebecca Donehew, Secretary |

The June 17, 2015 meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held at Famous Anthony's in Roanoke VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 Noon by Mike Harrison in the absence of David Tanner. Motions were made by to accept the meeting minutes from previous meetings (July 16, 2014, August 20, 2014, September 17, 2014, October 15, 2014, December 17, 2014, and January 21, 2015); each one being approved and accepted individually. Gail Abbott gave a report from the education committee with an outline of the upcoming education. The July 15 meeting will be at El Rio in Rocky Mount with a presentation on Best Tax Practice. It was announced dues ($25) were on a calendar year and payable last January 1. Announced needing a nominating committee and to hold elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 3 directors. Benny Montgomery was named the Chair of the Nominating Committee and Nancy Lynch was named to the committee. Beginning at 1:00 PM Ley Mills gave a PowerPoint webinar presentation on: Tax-Related Identity Theft: IRS Efforts to Assist Victims and Combat Identity Theft Fraud. The July 15 2015 meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Society of Enrolled Agents was held at El Rio's Restaurant in Rocky Mount VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:16 by David Tanner. Information about social media was presented to the chapter and it was asked if someone would be interested in creating and maintaining a Facebook account for our chapter - No volunteers. No financial report was given. The education portion of the meeting began at 12:45 with Gail Abbott giving a presentation on Best Practices for Your Tax Office. The presentation was very informative and with a great amount of discussion from the members on how these practices can be implemented into our office. Our next meeting will be held August 19 2015 at Famous Anthony's on Wards Road in Lynchburg VA. The topic to be presented will be Tax Consequences of Entity Choice with Michael Harrison, EA and John Webb, EA. One hour of CPE will be awarded for this meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM.
