Our meetings are held every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The location varies each month so as to serve all of our member's locations. Check here for dates, times, and locations of meetings.

Program Description: This presentation is focusing on steps tax practitioners should take in combating data breach and identity theft. The topic is "Six Steps to Protect Your Clients and Protect Yourself from Identity Theft". Actual situations tax practitioners faced will be discussed and its consequences. Other sections covered will include using best security practices in fighting data theft tactics and emerging scams, steps to take if you lose your data, maintain/monitor/protect your EFIN and PTIN, educate your clients/staff, and battling W2 scam. Also discussed will be recommended resources for additional information.

Senior Tax Specialist (Stakeholder Liaison – Field)
Bio: Herbert D. (Ley – sounds like "Lee") Mills is a Senior Tax Specialist (Stakeholder Liaison – Field) assigned to Communication Stakeholder Outreach (CSO), which is part of Communications, Outreach, Systems and Solutions (COSS) in the Small Business/Self-Employed operating unit at the Internal Revenue Service. He has been with the Service for almost 25 years, consisting of 11 years as a Revenue Agent in Compliance and the remaining years as a Senior Tax Specialist. As a Revenue Agent, Ley audited Federal Income Tax Returns for various corporations, partnerships, and self-employed individuals. He also served as the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program Coordinator in Northern Virginia (the program helped over 6,000 taxpayers annually). As a Senior Tax Specialist, Ley works with tax practitioner and professional organizations in providing information to business owners on relevant tax issues. He also served on the District Speakers Bureau. Ley has also been involved in the IRS Central Withholding Agreement (CWA) from 2004–2007, working with agents for foreign entertainers and athletes performing in the U.S. And, from 2002–2005, he assisted taxpayers, such as foreign students and nonresident aliens in the U.S., U.S. employees working abroad, etc., on various tax questions during the tax season.

Ley is a graduate of Gettysburg College, University of Maryland, and Strayer University, earning a Masters degree in Accounting at Strayer.

Ley is an avid bicyclist. He also plays the guitar at church, does volunteer work as an EMT at a local rescue squad, and teaches First Aid and CPR/AED for the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross.

Continue on the Roy Webber Expressway / I-581 for 8.9 miles.
Take I-581, Exit 2 (first exit) to Peters Creek Road (North) for 2.4 miles.

Famous Anthony's will be on the left in a strip mall with Food Lion.

From Lynchburg:
Route 460 - From the Botetourt / Roanoke County line continue for .5 mile.
Turn right on to Route 220 (Cloverdale Road) for 5.2 miles.
Note: This is the old truck stop location at I-81, Exit 150.
Turn left on to Route 11 South (Lee Highway / Williamson Road) for 4.  miles.
Famous Anthony's will be on the left in a strip mall with Food Lion.

Chapter Meeting CE Credit Policy


For VASEA Members:
Receiving CE credit for attending VASEA chapter meetings is a benefit of VASEA membership. All active members and associates in good standing are eligible to receive IRS CE credit through the VASEA office for chapter meetings at no charge.

For Non-Members:
Non-members may receive IRS CE credit for chapter meetings through the VASEA office at a rate of $15 per chapter education event. In order for non-members to receive CE credit for attending a chapter meeting, they must:
  1. Comply with the chapter's attendance and sign-in requirements for chapter meetings, including providing their PTIN.
  2. Purchase a chapter meeting CE token from the VASEA website at the rate of $15 per chapter education event no later than 2 days following the meeting.
VASEA will upload IRS CE credit information for all paid non-member chapter meeting attendees at the same time the credit is uploaded for the VASEA member attendees. Chapters do not have to solicit for payment but should notify non-member attendees that they will not receive CE credit unless a token is purchased through the VASEA office.

Annual CE Token Pass Option for Non-Members:
Non-members may pay $100 for a VASEA Annual CE Token Pass, which entitles the individual to unlimited chapter CE for the year without buying individual tokens.

Chapters are encouraged to include the Chapter Meeting CE Credit Policy for Non-Members in their meeting announcements.



Your CE Token(s) can be purchased by going to VASEA's web site http://www.vasea.org/, clicking on "Member Login" (upper right corner), then select "Chapter CE Tokens" from the menu on the left, click on the blue box for Chapter CE Token, fill in the Chapter Name and Meeting date, then click on "+ Add To Cart" then click on "Check Out".

If you are a visitor and don't have a login, use the "New Visitor Registration" to create an account. You may want to do this first.

Your payment must be received by the second day after the meeting – no exceptions.

CE Certificates: CE certificates are for your records only. IRS CE credit is only provided for VASEA members who attend the program and non-members who attend the program and pay the non-member chapter meeting CE fee of $15 per chapter education event.
