The January 20, 2010 meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held at Famous Anthony's, Williamson Road in Roanoke, Va. The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by William Barbour, President. The minutes of the October 21, 2009 meeting were approved as posted. The April 21, 2010 meeting will be in Lynchburg with additional information to be posted on the web-site. Treasurer, Gunther Greimel gave the members a financial report. There was considerable discussion of state information being eligible for CPE according to IRS policy. It was the consensus of the group that we have complied in the past and will continue to do so when the state information is directly related to federal income tax information. Benny Montgomery informed the members that he has been in contact with Jerry and Candy Riles and they stated that VASEA is dropping their tax update in the fall. They stated that they still plan to come to Roanoke for the seminars. He has also talked with Heather and she stated the state society has not made a decision on presenting the updates in Roanoke this year although they might if they go with Gear Up for the seminar. William "Bill" Barbour began his presentation on Ministers' W-2's and Information Returns at 12:40 p.m. and concluded at 1:35 p.m. One hour of CPE will be awarded. Secretary |

The April 21, 2010 meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held at China Super Buffet in Lynchburg. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. The minutes of the January 20, 2010 meeting were approved as posted. Round table discussion was held on a variety of topics encountered by the members during the past filing season. The May 19, 2010 meeting will be at Famous Anthony’s on Williamson Road in Roanoke, Va. Gail Abbott will present information on exempt organizations at this meeting. The May meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held at Famous Anthony's, Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by William Barbour, President. The minutes of the April 21, 2010 meeting were approved as posted. Old Business: Bill was asked if he had heard anything further from Heather Greenwell about attending the meeting today, and he had not. New Business: Anne Wood stated that David Hurt of Conservation Partners would like to send Kelly Hopkins to speak to us about conservation easements, and the buying and selling of tax credits. Bill will contact Kelly and try to schedule her for the June meeting. Don Houck was asked to consider speaking about representation, and will let Bill know. Benny will speak about Ethics in October. Fritz mentioned that he had received notice that NCPE would be doing the individual tax seminar in Roanoke on November 2nd and 3rd. Gail Abbott, EA presented an hour of education regarding Exempt Entity Reporting. The June meeting will be in Roanoke with additional information to be posted on the web site.
