The September meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on September 16, 2009 at China Super Buffet in Lynchburg, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:50 p.m. by Bill Barbour. A motion was made by Sharon Tabor Warren to accept the August minutes as posted on the web site, and the motion was seconded by Becky Donehew. The motion was approved. Fritz Greimel presented the Treasurer's Report and it was accepted. Charles Spencer introduced a motion for the web site expenses for 2009-2010 as follows: $99.00 for hosting, $15.99 for the domain name, and $225.00 for the web updates, for a total bill of $339.99 annually. The motion was seconded by Sharon Tabor Warren. This motion was approved. At 1:15 p.m. Benny Montgomery began his presentation on Ethics and concluded at 2:23 p.m. for 1 hour of Ethics CPE. The next scheduled meeting will be October 21 at Famous Anthony's on Williamson Road. Bill Barbour will invite a Commissioner of the Revenue to be our speaker. The October meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held October 21, 2009 at Famous Anthony's on Williamson Road in Roanoke, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by William Barbour, President. The minutes of the September 16, 2009 meeting were approved as posted. The December 16, 2009 meeting will be in Rocky Mount, Va. with additional information to be posted on the web site. The December 18, 1996 copy of the Blue Ridge Chapter Policies and Procedures was discussed and comparisons are to be made with the State Policies and Procedures to see if any changes should be made in our chapter's to be in compliance with the state society. Motion was made by Benny Montgomery seconded by Guther Greimel and carried by the members to bring before the Board of Directors for consideration and action, if any, charges to be made to non-members attending our education meetings to receive continuing education credit. The Treasurer, Gunther Greimel gave the members a financial report. Mrs. Nancy J. Horn, Roanoke County Commissioner of Revenue gave a very informative talk on the workings and responsibilities of her office. The December meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held December 16, 2009 at Ippy's Restaurant in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by William Barbour, President. The minutes of the October meeting were approved as posted. Benny Montgomery discussed the issue of basis in real estate as related to an uncompleted gift where the donor retains a life estate, even though it is unstated. He was amending the discussion at NCPE and cited Internal Revenue Code Sec. 2036 as being the pertinent source. Becky Donahew mentioned that Quickfinders would like for us to place a group order. Fritz Greimel gave the Treasurer's report. Benny reported that Jimmy Carwile was in the hospital gravely ill, and the secretary was instructed to send him a card. Gail Abbott gave a 50 minute presentation on updates to state and federal income tax regulations and procedures, for 1 unit of CPE. The January meeting will be in Roanoke at Famous Anthony's on January 20. The topic for CPE will be Information Returns, and David Tanner will also discuss preparation of information returns for ministerial income. Meeting was adjourned by the president. Nancy H.
