The January meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Famous Anthony's, Roanoke, Virginia. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. by Rebecca Donehew, President. Rebecca notified everyone that our Secretary, Nancy Lynch fell on January 3 and the doctors finally realized on January 12 she had an acute compression fracture of the 5th vertebrae and a bulging disk lower down. She met with the neurosurgeon on the 15th and had surgery on the 16th. The surgeon cemented the compression fracture and said the surgery went well. She went home the same day and is expected back at work in a couple of weeks. Charles Spencer moved the Chapter send her a get well card and some flowers not to exceed $75. Mary Moore seconded the motion. A vote was held and the motion passed. Becky Donehew will take care of the card and flowers. At 12:45 p.m. Charles Spencer, EA began his presentation on Virginia Update. The presentation concluded at 1:50 p.m. One (1) hour of CPE will be awarded. The April meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the home of Rebecca Donehew. The meeting was called to order by President Donehew at 12:45. The nominating committee appointed by the President is Benny Montgomery and Mike Harrison. Discussion covered unusual events with tax preparation this past filing season with information exchanged regarding problems with software, obtaining tax information, and dealing with the Internal Revenue Service. CPE was not consistently offered at every meeting last year; therefore an email will be sent to all members requesting suggested topics and or speakers for the remainder of this year. The May 20, 2009 meeting will be at Famous Anthony's on Williamson Road. Education will be presented by Charles Spencer, covering The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The May meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Wednesday May 20, 2009 at Famous Anthony’s, in Roanoke, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Rebecca Donehew, President. The nominations committee reported the following slate of officers for election in June: William Barbour, President David Tanner, Vice-President Nancy Lynch, Secretary Gunther (Fritz) Greimel, Treasurer Directors: Charles Spencer; Michael Harrison and Benny Montgomery The slate was unanimously approved. At 1:00 p.m. Charles Spencer, EA began his presentation on The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
