The June meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Wednesday June 18th at Ippy’s Restaurant in Rocky Mount, VA. The business meeting was for the purpose of planning an education program for the remainder of the year. Nancy Lynch and Benny Montgomery introduced recommendations and discussion was held. Several topics were brought up for possibilities. The every week education was postponed due to the lack of time to prepare and will be in the planning for 2009. No financial report was given. Discussed nominations for new officers for the upcoming year. Nancy Lynch and Benny Montgomery were named to the Nominating Committee. (See note below). Rebecca Donehew volunteered to set the next meeting at Famous Anthony’s on Williamson Road and to make arrangements for the Blue Ridge Library for our next four meetings. There was a brief discussion of a K1 recipient receiving 1099S and reported on K1 but no formal education was presented and no CPE hours were issued. Gail and Becky volunteered to present education at our August meeting with the topic being EIC and child tax credits. Meeting adjourned at 2:00 PM Rebecca Donehew, President Acting Secretary Note added by Charles - We have since remembered, thanks to Nancy Lynch, our Officers and Board Members were elected for a two-year term in 2007. However, Sharon has resigned as Secretary, so we need to find another Secretary. Other elections are not necessary. |

The July meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Wednesday, July 16th at Famous Anthony's on Williamson Road in Roanoke. The business meeting was called to order by William Barbour who was presiding for Rebecca Donehew. Motion was made by Charles Spencer seconded by Benny Montgomery to elect Nancy Lynch Secretary for the balance of Sharon Warren's term. Vote was carried by a vote of three to one. Considerable discussion was held regarding education sessions for the chapter during the summer and fall. Consensus was "it is too late for the necessary planning and implementation for 2008 even though Rebecca Donehew was able to secure the meeting room at the Blue Ridge Library. We need more time for preparation and speakers to have an effective program. It should be started in the planning stages now for such a program for 2009". There does not seem to be enough interest in training and attendance at our monthly meetings to present programs this year. Education for August will be Gail Abbott on filing status and qualifying child. September will be Rebecca Donehew on EIC and child tax credits. Contact will be made with Bob Prettyman of the Virginia Employment Commission to try to secure him as speaker for October and Ray Lingle will be contacted to speak in January on pre-tax benefits. The August meeting of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Famous Anthony's in Roanoke, Virginia. Nancy reported that Bob Prettyman is out of town but he will get back to us when he returns regarding speaking at our October meeting. Rebecca Donehew is our speaker for the September meeting. Her topic will be Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credits. The September meeting will be held at China Super Buffet in Lynchburg on 17th at 12:00 noon. Members were reminded that dues of $25.00 per member are due in July. If you have not paid your dues, please send them to David Tanner. Also, the NCPE education workshops will be held on November 12 and 13. Please check your calendar for your CPE credits. Our speaker, Gail Abbott spoke on Filing Status and Personal and Dependent Exemptions. Gail's presentation began at 12:45 p.m. and ended at 1:45 p.m. CPE of 1 hour will be given.
